“Wayfarer’s Hearth Set” – Hand-Forged Viking & Celtic Knife with Eating Awl
The Wayfarer’s Hearth Set reflects the practical tools carried by Viking and Celtic travelers, hunters, and camp-dwellers, where a blade was not only a weapon, but an essential companion for food, craft, and daily survival. Compact, purposeful, and forged with honesty, this set embodies the simplicity and resilience of early Northern cultures.
The hand-forged carbon steel knife features a straight-edged blade with a tapered point, finished with a raw forge texture that echoes early medieval smithing methods. Its twisted forged handle loop provides secure grip and easy suspension, a design commonly seen in utilitarian blades meant to be worn or carried close at hand.
Paired with the knife is a hand-forged eating awl, traditionally used for food preparation, cooking over fire, piercing, and camp utility. The awl’s twisted handle and pointed profile mirror archaeological finds from Viking and Celtic sites, where such tools were indispensable for daily life on the road.
The set is completed with a fitted leather sheath, designed to carry both knife and awl securely while maintaining a clean, period-correct appearance.
